Pros and Cons of Visiting Mallorca in September

Pros

September in Mallorca is a hidden gem of a month that offers a ton of perks. First off, majorca weather September is still warm enough for beach days, but not as scorching as the peak summer months like if you visited in July, making it ideal for adding outdoor activities like hiking and cycling to your Majorca itinerary. The sea remains warm and we were still able to swim in it!

Another big plus is that the crowds have started to thin out. You’ll find the beaches, restaurants, and attractions less packed, giving you a more authentic and relaxed experience. This also means you can often snag better deals on accommodations and flights.

Lastly, the island is alive with events and festivals that give you a deep dive into Mallorcan culture. From wine festivals to traditional fairs with delicious traditional Mallorcan food, September is a month that combines the best of summer months like Mallorca in June, with a touch of local feel!

Cons:

While September has a lot going for it, there are a few downsides to consider. For starters, the weather can be a bit unpredictable. You might encounter a few rainy days or cooler evenings when thinking about Mallorca weather September.

Also, since it’s a transitional month, some summer attractions, boat trips, and water sports facilities start to close down for the season, so keep that in mind when planning how many days to spend in Mallorca. If you have your heart set on a specific activity, it’s a good idea to check in advance, or just plan to visit Mallorca in August when everything is going!

Lastly, while the crowds are less intense than in the peak summer months, popular spots can still get much more busy than visiting in slower times such as January or exploring Mallorca in February, especially on weekends.

Here’s a rundown of some of the best events you shouldn’t miss:

Nit de l’Art in Palma: This is the island’s biggest free art event, usually taking place around the third Saturday of September. Art galleries, museums, and cultural centers open their doors for free viewing.

Festa des Vermar in Binissalem: This festival marks the end of the wine-picking season in Binissalem, a town renowned for its viticulture. Hotels get booked really quickly, especially around festivals, so you want to book in advance! As Palma is a great base, here are our top picks for accommodation near Palma:

For a mid-budget accommodation (our go-to) we suggest this Airbnb as it’s centrally located in the center of Palma, walkable to basically all the sites, and is a traditional, Mallorcan-style apartment with a beautiful balcony! We loved it here but it’s not the cheapest or most luxurious option!

Packings Tips for Visting Mallorca in September

Here are some tips and things to consider when packing your things for a Mallorcan getaway!

  • Footwear Choices: Comfortable walking shoes are a must for those charming old towns and scenic trails. Save the flip-flops for beach lounging. Caleb and I adore our Allbirds!
  • Driving Necessities: If you’re renting a car, closed-toe shoes are legally required for driving. So, keep the flip-flops for sandy strolls.
  • Stay Connected: Google Fi is our go-to for seamless connectivity. If you prefer, grab a Spanish SIM card before you land. We’ve had good experiences with World Sim.
  • Swimsuit Rotation: Pack a couple of swimsuits. Trust us, you’ll appreciate having a dry option.
  • Hydration: Don’t underestimate the September sun. A reusable water bottle is key.
  • Power Up: Your phone will be working overtime with all the pics and navigation. A portable charger is a lifesaver. We really love that this one has built-in cables.
  • Day Trip Bag: Consider a lightweight backpack for day trips. It’s a convenient way to carry essentials like sunscreen, snacks, and that all-important water bottle. We personally love the Osprey brand for backpacks and this day pack is perfection!
  • Snack Attack: Pack some portable snacks like protein bars or dried fruit. You never know when you’ll need a quick energy boost during your explorations
  • Local Maps: While digital is great, having a small, physical map can be a backup lifesaver, especially in more remote areas where the signal might be weak.
