Pros and Cons of Visiting Mallorca in October

Pros

October in Mallorca is a breath of fresh air—literally. The scorching summer heat mellows out, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. We LOVED checking out all the best places by car without feeling like we were melting!

The beaches are less crowded, giving you more space to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea without being all up in someone’s biznas! Plus, the island is still vibrant with local festivals and events that offer a deep dive into Mallorcan culture.

The best part? Prices for flights and accommodations generally drop after the summer rush, making it a more budget-friendly option. We thing October is just the BEST time in Mallorca!

Cons:

While October offers a lot of perks, it’s not without its downsides.

Similarly to visiting Mallorca in other transitional months like April, Mallorca’s October weather can be a bit unpredictable, with occasional rain showers and cooler evenings. If you’re set on a beach-centric vacation, the sea temperatures start to dip, making swimming less appealing for some. We still did it but we have to say, it was colder than we expected.

Also, as the month progresses, some tourist services and attractions begin to close for the off-season as the summer season comes to a close.  So, if you have specific places in mind, it’s best to check their operating hours.

Majorca in October Weather

Mallorca in October weather is a transitional month, marking the shift from the hot summer months of June or July to the milder autumn season. Similar to September in Mallorca, you can expect around 7-9 hours of sunlight per day, which is still plenty of time for outdoor activities. The skies are generally clear, but cloud cover does increase compared to the summer months—clear skies are around 60% of the time.

As for rain, October sees a slight uptick in precipitation as one of the rainiest months of the year, with the chances hovering around 20-25% (roughly 6 days per month.) While it’s not a washout, like rainier December, it’s a good idea to pack a light rain jacket just in case. Overall, the weather is pleasant but mixed, offering a blend of sunny and cloudy days.

For a mid-budget accommodation (our go-to) we suggest this Airbnb as it’s centrally located in the center of Palma, walkable to basically all the sites, and is a traditional, Mallorcan-style apartment with a beautiful balcony! We loved it here but it’s not the cheapest or most luxurious option!

Packings Tips for Visting Mallorca in October

Here are some tips and things to consider when packing your backpack or suitcase to fly away to Mallorca in October!

  • Layer Up: Pack a mix of short and long-sleeve tops to adapt to the fluctuating temperatures.
  • Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes are a must for daytime exploring, especially if you decide not to have a car in Mallorca! A pair of dressier shoes for evening outings wouldn’t hurt either.

  • Hydration: A reusable water bottle is essential, especially if you’re out and about all day.
  • Camera Gear: Don’t forget your camera and perhaps a portable charger. You’ll be snapping pics left and right and you want to be able to have memories!
  • Light Rain Gear: An easily packable raincoat or umbrella can come in handy, as October can have occasional showers. Here is a great one for women and here is one for men!
