Pros and Cons of Visiting Mallorca in April
Pros
April is a fantastic time to visit if you really want to explore Palma and all the little villages of the Serra Tramuntana like Deia, Valldemossa or Soller, without the hoards of tourists that the summer months bring, as the island has yet to come alive.
You’ll be able to go out for dinner without having to worry about making a reservation and you’ll be able to save some money because this is not quite the busy tourist season yet.
It’s also an optimal time for hiking or cycling as the temperatures are a little cooler and more bearable! You’ll also be able to spend fewer days in Mallorca, as there isn’t as much to do, which can be a pro if you have less vacation time!
Cons:
While visiting Mallorca is generally great, there are so many pretty large cons. The official “Summer season starts in May which means some things may not open in April. The towns may feel a little deserted which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you like to travel.
If you’re going for a beach vacation, April may not be for you as we think the weather is too cold to go swimming or snorkeling. I mean, if you have a wet suit or tend to like cold water, jump on in! But, for us regular folk, the water is too cold!
Mallorca April Weather
Similar to the winter month of November, the start of spring really brings a mixed bag in terms of April weather in Majorca or Mallorca – however you are spelling it. The days are long, which makes more time for exploring, and cloud cover is fairly consistent at about 40% throughout the month
However, there are days where the sun shines brighter with clear to partly cloudy conditions for about 61% of the time and the hours of sun per day are an average of 7-10 hours. While the island does see some rainfall, the chances of a wet day in April hover around 17% or 5-6 days. This is more common if you’re spending time in the mountains of the island!
Temperature in Mallorca in April
The temperature in April is mild and super comfortable as opposed to hot and sticky like Summer months or cold and rainy like in December! It also starts to feel warmer than Mallorca in March! According to Weather Spark, daily high temperatures typically hover around 70°F (21.1°C), while the nights are cooler, with temperatures hovering around 50°F (10°C).
To give a broader perspective, on the hottest days, Mallorca’s temperatures can range from 67°F (19.4°C) to 87°F (30.6°C) in August, and during the chilliest days of Mallorca in January or in the month of February they can vary between 40°F (4.4°C) to 59°F (15°C). So, April offers a middle ground for you if you’re a couple who prefers moderate warmth without the intense summer heat you you guys want to do active things without feeling like you are dying in the heat!
Things to Do in Mallorca in April
With the cooler weather in April, some of the best things to do on the island during the early spring are to spend time exploring the main sites of Palma with a “Hop on Hop Off” bus tour or see the best sites by car, such as the dreamy and romantic mountain villages like Fornalutx. It’s also one of the best months for hiking and cycling.
If you plan to rent a car, make sure to do so in advance. We booked through Discover Cars and it was a great experience!

A couple more unique things to do in Mallorca that Caleb and I love are:
- A food tour in Palma – we do this in pretty much every country we visit and it’s a great immersion into local culture and food. April is an ideal time to do one as you won’t be walking in the heat.
- Wine tasting – wine tasting is always a good thing to do for couples, but having fewer tourists while you do it makes it more romantic!
- Boat Trips – Some of these may be closed in April but they start running mid-April and are definitely a must-do if you can!
Holidays and Events in April 2024
Cuttlefish and Nautical Fair in the Alcudia Port – Alcudia is a charming, resort-focused village in the northern part of the island. You’ll find nautical themed-things with a market and dancing. It’s family-friendly so note this if you don’t want to be surrounded by kiddos on your romantic vacay! It’s a great place to taste some of the best Mallorcan food!
Palma International Boat Show – on April 25-28 2024, this well-loved event kicks off the start of the nautical season on the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll find all the latest innovations in boating and even a cool superyacht village. Watch out for the “Night of the Sea” with awesome entertainment and free-flowing adult beverages.
312 Mallorca Bike Race – Remember we said that there is a lot of cycling in Mallorca? For this race, thousands of people head to the island to cover 312 kilometers and 5050 meters of altitude gain. Not really our idea of fun, but it might be yours if you’re a couple who loves to bike!
The race is set for Saturday, April 27th, 2024 and you can get details here.
NOTE: this means a lot of roads are closed. If you’re planning to rent a car and drive around Mallorca, this could make it a bit challenging!
Fira de la Sal i Salaons (salt fair) – This festival celebrates one of my favorite things – salt! Fun fact, I carry salt in my purse at all times and it drives Caleb crazy when I whip it out at every restaurant. I don’t want any bad food!
This festival is held in Colonia de Sant Jordi and will feature cooking demos, a market, and salt tasting! Yum! No 2024 dates have been posted yet.
Soller Orange Fair – we had the BEST citrus gelato in Soller at Mr Mccoys Island Ices and this festival shows why! Soller is known for its orange production and this festival, which starts in April and goes into May, showcases oranges from the Soller Valley and restaurants do special menus featuring oranges. Don’t miss this culinary adventure!
Hotels get booked really quickly, especially around festivals, so you want to book in advance! As Palma is a great base, here are our top picks for accommodation near Palma:
For a mid-budget accommodation (our go-to) we suggest this Airbnb as it’s centrally located in the center of Palma, walkable to basically all the sites, and is a traditional, Mallorcan-style apartment with a beautiful balcony! We loved it here but it’s not the cheapest or most luxurious option!

Budget: If you’re looking to save a buck, it’s a bit hard in Mallorca! However, we recommend MHOUSE Boutique Hotel Palma. It’s located in the heart of the city right by the antique train station for a winning location, and even has the option to have breakfast included!

Luxury: want to treat yourself? We recommend the Puro Grand Hotel! The place oozes romance and class with its Arabic-inspired design and charming courtyard (I mean, just look at it!) The location is central and amazing too!

What to Wear In Mallorca in April
Layers, layers, and more layers are absolutely your friend in April! The mornings and evenings can be quite cool, so you want to ensure you have some jackets, longer pants, or longer dresses (ideally with sleeves) so you can layer up. If you plan to spend time in the mountains, a warm jacket and a hat is essential.
However, you will want to layer down in the daytime with shorts, tank tops, and shorter dresses which does make packing for Mallorca in April more challenging. Your best bet is to bring some basic pieces that work for the daytime and then some warmer items that can go over those pieces for the night.
Ladies – I love jumpsuits like this during April in Mallorca because you can throw them over a swimsuit during the day, and then dress them up with a cute jacket at night.
Men – while not very trendy, Caleb says that those pants that you can zip the shorts-part on and off will be a friend.
Packings Tips for Visting Mallorca in April
Here are some of the top tips we wish we knew about Mallorca in April:
- Pack some clothes that you think will be too warm to wear. You might be surprised that you use them!
- Make sure you pack running shoes – the mountain roads can be treacherous, especially if you are checking out Mirador Es Pontas. I scraped my feet badly when I wore flip-flops.
- Other closed-toe shoes than running shoes for exploring at night and for driving. It’s illegal to drive in Mallorca in flip-flops! We LOVE the Allbirds brand of shoes – trendy and so comfy.
- We recommend either pre-buying or packing a Spanish SIM card for your phone so you don’t have to mess with it when you land. We’ve had a great experience with World Sim.
- OR get Google Fi service (we are OBSESSED WITH IT) so you always have cell service everywhere you go. You will be VERY happy with this if you are seeing the sights in Mallorca by car and can use Google Maps on your phone!
- Make sure to bring at least one bathing suit. While it’s probably too cold to swim, you can get some good sunbathing time in if you’re lucky!
