1. Vermouth

The souvenir we always bring back from Spain is Spanish Vermouth – it’s sitting in our bar right now! Spanish vermouth is sweeter, more citrusy, and has more spice than Italian vermouth and we adore it with a spritz of gin and Campari!

We mentioned Taberna La Concha’s vermouth in our guide to the best vermutherias in Madrid and this is where we recommend you get it. It’s made in-house and SO GOOD. One of the best souvenirs from Madrid Spain for sure! If you spend a few days in Madrid you are going to want to visit the Calle Cava Baja to go there there every day, we promise.

2. Wine – cava, rioja, and the white wine.

According to “Eat This Not That”, Spain is the second best country for wine in the world (second to France) and we agree! From the big flavor of Rioja wines to Caleb’s favorite Tempranillo to the citrusy lightness of Albariño or the mineral-forward Malvasia, there are Spanish wines for all palettes!

If you like bubbles pick up some Spanish Cava!

Practical tip: Make sure that you pack your wine appropriately so it doesn’t break in flight. We one brought 10 bottles of wine home from Spain (don’t judge) and these packable wine bags worked so well – we had NO broken bottles. Just happy, wine-induced smiles. 😏

Here is a guide to the best Spanish wine regions to help you decide what kind to buy!

3. Sherry

Sherry, or Jerez, is the Spanish wine from the southern region of Cádiz. It is a fortified white wine with a grape spirit that can be dry, naturally sweet, or made to be sweet. It’s a great after-dinner drink and you’ll find it enjoyed all over Andalucia!

4. Iberico Ham

You can’t go anywhere in Spain without seeing Iberian ham legs hanging in markets or restaurants. Iberico ham is like anything you’ve ever tried! The pigs are from the Iberian peninsula and are fed acorns, so the meat is sweet and rich!

Practical tip: it is illegal to bring this back into the USA unless it’s from a USDA-approved facility and there aren’t many in Spain. If you are coming from the USA, we recommend buying some to enjoy while traveling around Europe/Spain but do not try to bring it home. If you live in the EU, you’re good to go.

PRO TIP:

Not all Iberian ham is equal! Look for a label that says 100% “pata negra” which means black hoof. That’s what you want for Max yum!

5. Anchovies

Don’t be put off by what you may have tried in the USA: anchovies from Spain are way better. They are a little bigger than the anchovies you find in Italy and you can find small jars of cured anchovies which are a tasty souvenir to bring back!

6. Olives with spices

When in the Mediterranean, you have to eat olives and Spain has so many delicious varieties! You’ll find them served alone in cozy tapas bars or glasses of vermouth and a jar of olives is a great foodie gift to bring home from Spain!

7. Spanish Cheese

From salty, sheep’s-milk Manchego Cheese to the soft cow’s milk cheese called Mahon to the blue-cheese like Valdeón, there is a massive variety of cheese to try in Spain. As long as you have somewhere cool to pack it, Spanish Cheese is a must to bring back and we love the traditional cheese in Mallorca!

Did we just make an at-home charcuterie date night with the first souvenirs on this list accidentally on purpose? Maybe. 😏

If you have some time in Madrid, you must visit Casa Gonzales. It’s a local cheese shop with a bar in the back to have wine and cheese and it’s on of our favorite secret spots! We love to order their “Spanish Sheep Cheese Plate,” which comes with 4 varieties of Spanish sheep cheese and a little bit of fig paste. I still dream of the taste of the salty sheep brie cheese with the sweet fruit jam to this day OMG.

8. Cork products

Spain has one of the largest cork forests in the world so you better believe the cork products there are quality! No, we’re not just talking about the wine corks you’ll naturally bring home with the delish wine!

You’ll find things like bags, jewelry, wallets, and hats made of cork with beautiful patterns. It’s so soft you won’t believe it’s cork!

9. Flamenco Dress or Castanets

Seeing an authentic flamenco show is one of the best things to do in Spain, especially in Andalucia. Why not take home more than memories with a pretty Flamenco dress or some castanets?

I mean, after one too many glasses of vermouth you’re probably going to want to dance and you have to look the part, right?

Practical tip: You will have to go to a Flamenco Store (which can easily be Googled in any city) in order to find a place to buy these. The ones at souvenir stores are not authentic, just FYI.

10. Spanish Paprika – smoked and sweet

Paprika is one of the main spices of Spanish Cuisine, called Pimentón there, and it’s nothing like the paprika we have here in the USA!

I always bring back sweet, hot, and smoked Spanish Paprika and I love making this Spanish meatball recipe with them. It’s SO GOOD. Perfect for an at-home date night to remember your trip!

11. Turrón

Where are my sweet tooths? This nougat confection is made with honey, sugar, egg white, and toasted nuts and comes in many flavors from simple to unique, like matcha. This is easy to pack and store, so it makes an excellent sweet souvenir!

For flavor recommendations: I like the classic almond nougat or the pistachio! If you want to get “crazy,” we love the green tea flavor.

12. Porrón

porrón is a traditional glass wine pitcher that allows everyone to drink from the same utensil without touching it with their lips! It’s on the bigger side as far as souvenirs go but it’s a unique one if you have the space!

13. Bota Bags

Don’t confuse this with the cheap boxes of wine we drank in our 20s! Bota Bags are traditional Spanish wineskins. Much easier to back and store than the Porrón!

14. Flor de Sal from Mallorca

You know that we think Mallorca, one of the Balearic islands, is so worth visiting for so many reasons, but their salt might just be a hidden gem reason to go! Their amazing, mineral-rich salt is harvested from the beautiful Es Trenc beach and it’ll make you smile with memories every time you salt your food at home!

Was that too cheesy? As long as it’s Manchego, we’re good.

15. Espadrilles

These chic and casual summer shoes were born in Spain! They are traditionally flat and you’ll commonly find them hand-stitched. This is a great souvenir for my fashionable female friends!

16. Soccer Jersey

Real Madrid is famous for its soccer skills! If you’re a sports fan, why not bring back a soccer jersey to wear the next time you’re watching a game from afar?

17. Olive Oil

Skip the grocery store and get your olive oil right from the source: Spain! It’s much cheaper in the motherland and about 1000x better! Bring some home to jazz up your cooking or just drizzle it on ALL THE THINGS because it’s just that amazing.

Practical tip: we prefer to bring home olive oil from a grocery store in Spain, not the cute, decorates tins at a souvenir store. They can be lower quality and overpriced.

18. Paella Pan

Exploring Mallorca by car and having a paella class was one of our highlights in Mallorca and now you can do it at home with a paella pan! You probably can’t fit the traditional size in your backpack or suitcase (hello, huge and awkwardly shaped!) but you may be able to fit a paella pan for 2!

PRO TIP:

sometimes it’s pretty affordable to ship souvenirs home! Check with local post offices or DHL if you want to bring something bigger than you can fit!

19. Paella Rice

Can’t use your pan without rice! You want to make authentic paella right? You need the best rice. The rice in Spain is cheap and super easy to pack!

Jars of saffron are one of the best souvenir from Spain

20. Spanish Saffron

Spain produces a high volume of the world’s Saffron and it’s considered one of the world’s most valuable items. Bring some back (you’ll need it for your paella!) so you can add some Spanish flavor to your meals!

21. Terracotta tapas Dishes

Sitting in a cozy tapas bar, while drinking some local alcohol, is one of the best things to do in Spain! Now you can get that vibe on at-home tapas bar night when you bring home some terracotta tapas dishes. These are the quintessential serving dishes for Spanish food and, bonus, they’re small and ultra-packable! These dishes are some of the best Spain souvenirs for foodies! You can even use our tapas 101 Guide to eat them like a local when you get home or recreate the favs you had from all the amazing tapas bars in Madrid!

22. Local Artwork

What better way to remember your trip together than to buy a local painting of one of the cities you visited from the endless galleries or street artisans? You can find some unique pieces and sometimes you can even roll the canvas up, making it much easier to transport! Then, just frame it once you’re home!

23. Traditional Spanish Hand Fan

Spanish fans are one of the most famous things to buy in Spain! They became popular in the 14th century to help women cool down in the heat, as well as stay fashionable and private by hiding their faces. Complete your sexy flamenco dance outfit (or not?) because you’ll find many beautiful patterns all over Spain!

24. Mallorcan Pearls

Mallorca is one heck of a romantic place for couples and now you can buy romantic gifts there! Mallorcan pearls are famous for being longer-lasting and more accessible pearls to natural pearls, while still preserving quality. A bracelet or necklace makes some of the best gifts from Spain to bring back for loved ones!

25. Lava Jewelry from the Canary Islands

The volcanic Canary Islands off the coast of Spain make some very unique jewelry! If the feminine Mallorcan pearls aren’t your cup of vermouth (see what we did there?) try the bold and black lava rock jewelry from these islands!

26. Ceramics and Pottery

Among the best Souvenirs from Spain is the vibrantly-colored pottery with its kaleidoscopic designs! You can find anything from spoon rests to vases and you’ll find different ceramic styles all over the different regions of Spain!

27. Silk Shawl

The breeze, beachy city of Valencia was part of the silk route back in the day, which means you can buy some amazing quality silk products there. Whether you need a shawl for your flamenco outfit or just to stay fashionable, this is a very traditional Spanish souvenir to buy!

28. Damascene works from Toledo

The old Spanish capital, Toledo, is renowned for its damascene handicrafts. Damascening is the Moorish art of inlaying gold or silver threads into black steel in a decorative pattern. You can find this pattern used to decorate items from plates to jewelry!

29. Leather Goods

Did you know that leather goods from Spain have been sought out since the early Middle Ages? The quality is amazingly rich and soft and there are so many leather good options to buy such as shoes, bags, or wallets! Practical and beautiful!

30. Postcards

Ya, ya, ya – you can get postcards anywhere. It’s something Caleb and I always buy when we go on vacation because it’s a cheap, easy, and ultra-portable way to remember our trips! Our favorite postcards in Spain are in Mallorca where local artisans make the postcards with sand from the actual beaches. SO PRETTY!

rows of tourist looking magnets on a wall

31. Magnets

Why yes, another “ultra touristy” souvenir but another one that is super easy to pack. It’s fun to open your fridge and have memories of your vacation! From beautiful magnets to cheese magnets of paella or patatas bravas, you’ll find these all over Spain at street markets.
